Until a year ago, I was a well paid Software Product Manager for hi-tech companies. When I lost my job, I reached a point where I had to decide on reorganizing my life. I am still young and I need an income for my family, so where do I start? I realized that I need to work on my own to be able to take care of my 87 year old mother and my 80 years old mother-in-law, suffering from Alzheimer dementia.
Seeing the hardship my husband’s aunt is going through (an 85 year old very active, autonomous person) when moving from the duplex she owned where she lived the last 40 years, into a 4 ½ condo, I noticed the need for people helping seniors in this predicament. Then, after looking at statistics and doing some market study, I realized the potential of this growing market niche (Montreal senior citizens).
As I am very well organized, very fast and efficient especially when it comes to moving, I decided to open my own company offering this type of services to people in need, especially seniors.
Moving represents for seniors a very big and scary step, it takes them years to decide and sometimes it is too late to enjoy the result. We come in to help them move when the time is right, before it’s too late.
Why am I the best person for this? Let’s see – I moved already 10 times in my life, changing twice the country and the continent as well. My last move was with a small child and a toddler. The evening of the move, all the boxes were empty and all our stuff was in closets, cabinets, paintings hanged and the children had a warm meal.
So I look at this work to be a continuation of my years of experience as project manager – it is clearly “Project coordination with empathy”. |
